About me

Hi! I am Mikie Conway and I am a Art Director/Graphic Designer at WEX. I graduated from the American Academy of Art with a BFA in Graphic Design.

In this chaotic, stressful world I like to organize and simplify my life and I treat design in the same way. My design focuses on a simple, clear style and I like the challenge of finding the cleanest most effective way to make sure the client's vision shines through. I enjoy working with other creative minds to resolve problems and accomplish goals. There are several ways to solve a single problem, with flexibility and strong communication any obstacle can easily be overcome. I strive to become a better designer through every creative challenge and to try to simplify our lives with the help of design. 

My Career Path

I started working at benefitexpress in March of 2021 as a junior designer and shortly after it was acquired by WEX. They were a growing their design team I grew right with them and was promoted to a mid level designer in 2023. That year we also rebranded and I took part in establishing their brand guidelines. With all of the work I did with managing our brand standards guide and taking over as lead of our events design I was promoted to senior designer in 2024.

Roles at WEX

My role at WEX is to:

  • Help define brand standards along with creating templates and curating assets to keep our whole team consistent

  • Lead designer of all WEX events

  • Design trade show booths, ad campaigns

  • Create and update E-books, White Papers and Info Sheets

  • Create social media posts and marketing materials

 

My Career Path

I started as an intern at the Museum of Science and Industry in the Exhibit Design Department the summer of 2015 (after my Junior year of college). It was a great fit and I was hired after I graduated as a Production Assistant. Three years later, I was promoted to a Designer. I left MSI the beginning of 2021 to start a new journey with WEX.

Roles at MSI

My role at MSI was to:

  • Create signage and maps for events

  • Work with our education department on tools they need for students

  • Redesign/update older exhibits

  • Work with a team to create new and exciting exhibits

  • Create production ready files for graphic panels

Typical Day

I have two parts to my job that I balanced during the day.

First, was developing new and exciting exhibits or experiences. I worked on a few different projects at a time that vary in size. I saw each project through from concept to design and finally production and instillation.

The second part of my job was managing the sign requests that have come in from people around the building. They could be anything from designing and producing signs for an event, creating educational tools for students, or adjusting graphics throughout the building for better guest experiences.

Outside of Work

I have a creative job and I usually keep the creativity going once I get home as well. I love to paint, mostly watercolor, and scrapbook. Any chance I get I love being outside and staying active. I Enjoy rollerblading, biking, taking a hike, doing yoga or just laying by the pool soaking up the sun.
